PROGRAMS

VISITING ARTISTS’ programs are uniquely structured to involve and incorporate local businesses and organizations, fostering the idea of community, connection, and reciprocal interest. This synergy results in a dynamic exchange of goods and services, as well as bolsters community engagement, and sense of recognition and value to underserved individuals and communities. Forming synergies and alignments with local businesses and organizations speaks to the heart and soul of our program — these community connections takes shape in various ways. Scroll down for a few examples.

INTERACTIVE HOLIDAY-THEMED GAMES

GAME OF GHOULS

Art history provides a kaleidoscope of possibilities for memory-based creative caregiving. GAME OF GHOULS was created with participants as part of ongoing museum visits, workshops, and classes. Discussions involve wide-ranging topics and approaches to learning. Part of the VISITING ARTISTS curriculum involves methods of memorization which are engaging as well as entertaining.

For GAME OF GHOULS, the idea is playing with ideas of spookily ‘changing’ the image, which involves many levels of cognition: decision-making, information processing, and problem solving. Second, he game involves naming each work and artist. The first prize winner received two $20 gift cards, from a wide variety of choices, while each participant was awarded one $20 gift card for participating in the endeavor.

CREATIVE INCENTIVES

FUNEE MUNEE

The FUNEE MUNEE program created by Vanessa Daou involves the making and ‘printing’ of unique “dollars”, to be used for purchasing goods from popular in-house auctions, featuring an array of donations, gifts, and other sundry items. The “dollars” were “earned” by virtue of participating in activities, providing an incentive for residents to join groups, adding dimension and purpose to their days.

FUNEE MUNEE created by Vanessa Daou. For these “one dollar” bills, Daou employs the time-honored technique of “blind contour drawing’, which entails observing the subject to be drawn without looking down at the paper. The result is always a surprising record of chance-and-risk-taking, eliminating judgement and enjoying the process of creation.
